Book Haul November.

                                                                      Book Haul
This haul contains a real mixed collection of genre's ....I can't wait to start them all. My bookshelves are really beginning to groan..the poor things .
Are you ready for another book haul..........I'm thinking yes...... Well then lets begin:

Currently Reading Nov 2012

                                                                Currently reading

The books I have chosen this past week to read are a real mixed bag. I was in one of those book moods where I wanted a little of everything. So , that being said here is what I picked to read.

The above book has the most beautiful cover. I am really enjoying the book so far and I am about half way through.
I just love the above cover. If all bookshops had shop fronts like this that would be awesome!
There is a real feel of decadence when reading this book. These characters lead indulgent and pampered lives and it is great fun to read about.
This one I got picked to review. The cover is just stunning. Can't wait to start this one. The story is based in 1942 when the war is tearing lives apart.Saba is our main character she is a singer who wants to travel through Europe entertaining all those fighting in the war. Going by the blurb it sounds like this is only the beginning of the adventures and people that she is about to come across.
Another book I am reading right now is The Gift by Jonathan Lynch about a young man who after being bullied decides to take his own life. The suicide does not exactly go to plan. So far I am really enjoying it. Go check it out!

This Week.

                                                                       This Week
Hi there!
I know it's been a while since I have posted anything new on here but that shall all be fixed this week as I am currently working on three haul blogs . There is a huge number of sales around at the moment and if you  need to pick up some books for gifts for others now may be the time to buy some of the books you may have on your TBR pile. I did find a few books that I had planned on buying a long while ago. Normally I have to order books as they never have what I am looking for locally but thankfully shopping in bookstores and second hand bookstores recently has paid of as I got some great bargains .
First of the haul videos is up tomorrow so until then friends, cheerio!!!

Country Girl by Edna O' Brien

                                                     Country Girl by Edna O'Brien

When Edna O'Brien speaks you listen. You stop what ever nattering you were doing yourself and sit there quietly taking in every syllable until the good woman is finished. I have been a fan of Edna's since my mother told me of her own experience of living in Co.Clare a few miles from where Edna lived as a child . I often listened to my mother as she told me about how the book The Country Girls was excepted(or rather not) in the small community in which they lived near by. That book was a big deal back then and reading it was frowned against to say the least. My grandmother being a great lover of reading and knowing the family from living in the same area was keen to read it ..she did not admit to reading it until much later but it was hidden in the house. My own mother hearing all the gossip about the book was intrigued as you can imagine and when ever she got the chance would sneak the book to read a few pages. We would both later own the book and in fact the series and could read it with much enjoyment, often together ,often ringing each other to chat over what part in the book we both came across and were enjoying most.
Country Girl takes us back to the very beginning of Edna's life in Co.Clare and to Drewsboro ,Tuamgraney.I got the audible version of this book as I think Edna has the most beautiful soothing eloquent voice that I have ever heard. Time flew by listening to her adventurous life and every moment of that I savoured. Edna   packed a huge amount of experience into her life and she will never shy away from telling about the hard times and sometimes less then glamorous moments .Her honesty is refreshing and her comic wit delightful!
The relationships in her life esp at the time of the publication of The Country Girls was alarming. Her family's reaction to the book I am sure must have saddened her , reading the book, it's innocence , it's hard to believe such a fuss it caused . The Country Girls is a beautiful book about friendship and relationships and family and if you are wondering which of her books to start reading I recommend this one.
Country girl takes us all through Edna's life. Her childhood, relationship with her parents, her school years, moving to Dublin. First love, marriage, her many adventures around the world, the famous people she met and became friends with and even buying a house on the coast of Donegal where she lived in the pink house near the ocean. A peaceful place but hard to direct an ambulance to(read the book you will understand then ;0).
As the book ended I was left feeling deflated. Not because the book ended badly, but because I was sad leaving her wonderful voice and interesting life behind. Memories of her book have stayed with me since I have finished it and there are many chats ahead of me with my mum about the book. We listened to the book together many times in her own kitchen in her home in Donegal. Another Co. Clare woman who survived the hills off Donegal :0)

November Book Haul Part 1

                                                       November Book Haul Part 1

It's been a funny old week. Bad weather, and all the colds and coughs that come with this time of year. Few things cheer me more then books when the weather is rubbish and the evenings are getting dark early. Since last month my reading habits have changed little.I am still reading horror books and some classics...I'm not done with Bronte's yet. Charlotte Bronte's writing appeals to me the most so far, but I am leaving final judgement  until I have read all the books.
So... I have had books arrive in dribs and drabs and have put off posting anything about them until I could collect them altogether and in some kind of order. They are sitting in a pile near my bed awaiting their new home on my bookshelf's...the poor things are homeless until after I post this. Their little paper bodies will be heaved up onto my shelves later tonight..yay!!!
So in no particular order let me introduce you to my newest books..
Patricia Cornwell-The Bone bed... This book is part of the Kay Scarpetta series that has been going since the beginning of the nineties, truly great series for any thriller fans, esp if you are at all interested in pathology and serial killers and unusual crimes. Miss Cornwell is a truly brilliant writer and I have collected all her books ..I highly recommend this series.

Next up we have Two Weeks Notice by Rachel Caine. The second book in the Revivalist series about a woman who is brought back from the dead. I got book one out from the library knowing nothing about it. I loved it and went straight out and bought book 2 now I have to go back and get book 1 at some point. The main Character Bryn is a great female character and I can't wait to see what happens in this second book.

The Case of the Imaginary Detective by Karen Joy Fowler. This is the same writer who wrote the Jane Austen Book Club. I loved that book and the movie. I am hoping this book is going to be just as good.

Next is The Slippery Slope by Lemony Snicket ,book 10 in the Series of Unfortunate Events series. I have read most of the books in the series but am still collecting all the hardback editions. I have about four more to get. I am looking  forward to finding out if this will have a happy ending ..I'm really hoping for a happy ending for these poor kids.. jeeze they had the worst luck ever.. Lemony Snicket you rock sir!!!!

Here we have Shirley and Villette by Charlotte Bronte.

A Girl For All Seasons by Camilla Morton.. This is like a woman's guide to everything you need to know in life..

Two autobiographies I have been eager to get  for a while now. Now they are mine. Yay!!

 I loved him in Candleshoe..
Next Michael Caine..  Some guys just keep getting better and better with age
Jane Austen ... A new edition to my shelves.. the last sad edition was much battered .. It may need a band aid or two

Have never read Starlight before so if any of you guys have I would love to know what you think about it.
Again another book I had never heard of before.I love the cover!!!!
I am saving this one for Christmas...
Well part two of this haul will be up in a day or two so for now enjoy seeing my books and leave in the comments if you got any new books lately you think I might enjoy. Have a great day xxxxxx
